Healing a Bladder Infection: 10 Tips

Some of us have it every year, but almost every woman knows what it is: cystitis. The burning sensation, the pain, and the constant need to pee… This disease is not pleasant at all. Whether you want to cure cystitis or prevent it from recurring, these are the golden rules to keep in mind!

Cystitis is painful. When you urinate, you feel a stabbing, burning pain. In addition, the urine becomes cloudy. Women in particular, are familiar with this disease. What can you do about cystitis?

1) Pay Attention to Your PH Balance

Moderate acidity is necessary to prevent bladder problems. Reduced activity in the bladder area can cause acidity. There are several exercises in yoga that can help restore acidity, such as bahya pranayama.

Exercise:

  • Sit in a comfortable position.
  • Inhale deeply and then exhale completely.
  • Hold your breath and bring your chin toward your chest/throat (larynx).
  • Draw in your navel as if your stomach and back are touching (abdominal block).
  • Pull the pelvis up as if you are holding back urine (anal block).
  • Hold the three blocks, including breathing, for as long as possible (10-15 seconds).
  • Take a deep breath and relax the blockage.
  • Repeat this at least three times.

2) Addressing the Microbiome

Do you often suffer from a bladder infection? Chances are that there is something wrong with the bacterial composition of your gut. To balance it out, eat more fiber (vegetables!). increase resistance (vitamin C) and exercise.

3) Copy the Indians

Have you heard of Koemisch Koetjing tea? It is an ancient Indian custom against cystitis. The strong acidity of the tea makes it impossible for bacteria to adhere to the bladder’s walls. In any case, drinking lots of it is good for you.

4) Brew Hot Tea

Heat is good for the bladder and stomach, especially if you have cystitis. Goldenrod tea is effective in preventing cystitis and has a strong cleansing effect. So make a good pot – so you can pee more often – and drink it during the day.

5) Don’t Use Soap

This is nothing new, but don’t use harsh products in the most vulnerable places. The vaginal area is self-cleaning, so soap is not necessary. Just rinse it off with warm water.

6) Consume Cranberries

Cranberries can help prevent recurrent cystitis. The fruit contains compounds such as tannic acid, which belong to the tannin group. These active substances prevent bacteria from attaching to the bladder wall and causing cystitis.

7) Drink Kefir

In recent years, kefir has found its way onto many kitchen shelves. Are you already familiar with this drink? Kefir can sometimes prevent bladder infections. The acidic climate is good for the bladder and pleases the intestines.

8) Pay Attention to Hygiene

The body, especially the vagina, can keep itself clean. However, we often spoil it ourselves by using products that do not benefit the vagina, and thus the bladder.

When you need to pee, do it right away. However, when you take the toilet paper, remember that you should clean it from front to back after defecation. If you do it the other way around, bacteria can enter the bladder, increasing the chance of cystitis.

 9) Flush the Bladder

Urinating becomes so painful during a bladder infection that you start drinking less water to avoid peeing. BUT: If you have a bladder infection, it is important to rinse your bladder frequently. So, drink lots of water!

10) Choose the Right Underwear

Sometimes it is better to wear underwear instead of thongs, especially if you are sensitive to fabrics. Cotton is usually recommended.
