Diabetes is a chronic disease with no cure, but it is possible to fight against it. On the one hand, screening is essential; on the other, certain treatments and approaches can be very effective.
Let’s see how to fight against diabetes with the means that exist.
1. Get screened
Although it is not possible to treat diabetes per se, it is possible to diagnose it quickly to avoid all the complications it can cause.
This means having your blood glucose levels regularly monitored, especially if you:
– have a family history of diabetes;
– have high blood pressure, cholesterol problems, or unexplained inflammation;
– are overweight.
2. Prevent diabetes
It is also possible to prevent diabetes by observing a correct lifestyle consisting of
– eating a balanced diet, avoiding excess sugar, salt, and fat;
– practicing regular physical activity, at least half an hour of walking per day, but if possible 2 hours 30 minutes of sport per week (in people with diabetes, practicing moderate physical activity would reduce the risk of death by 25% and the risk reduction would even reach 32% with a higher level of physical activity);
– fight against excess weight (a weight loss of 15% or more has the potential to slow down the progression of the disease and even lead to remission of diabetes in some patients);
– not smoking or drinking alcohol.
3. Antidiabetic treatment
Only doctors can prescribe the right drugs to fight diabetes.
In general, type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes is treated with the following:
– drugs containing metformin;
– incretins;
– SGLT2 inhibitors (type 2 sodium-glucose co-transporter inhibitors that decrease glucose reabsorption in the urine and have been approved since April 1, 2020);
– insulin secretors (glinides);
– empagliflozin (marketed under the name Jardiance®) if metformin is not sufficient or poorly tolerated, especially for patients with diabetes with cardiovascular complications or at high cardiovascular risk and with kidney disease;
– insulin injections if oral medication is insufficient.
Good to know: the more antibiotics are used, the higher the risk of diabetes (type 1 and type 2); after five or more antibiotic prescriptions, the risk of type 2 diabetes is tripled compared to those who did not use antibiotics.
4. Fight diabetes with herbal medicine
Although diabetes needs to be medically monitored, certain herbs can be taken to help the body avoid complications in type 2 diabetes.
Several of the following herbs can be combined.
– garlic, ideal against diabetes complications:
◦ raw (one to two cloves per day);
◦ in capsules (1 g per day);
◦ in mother tincture (25 drops per day).
– blueberry juice;
– eucalyptus:
◦ in essential oil (3 drops three times a day);
◦ in mother tincture (50 drops three times a day);
◦ as an infusion of dried leaves (10 minutes of infusion for each cup to be drunk three times a day).
– The powder of fenugreek seeds (50 g twice a day).
– Onion, a natural anti-diabetic:
◦ raw (30 to 40 g per day);
◦ cooked (onion soup or an infusion does the job very well);
◦ in the form of mother tincture.
– OLIVE:
◦ as a mother tincture (60 drops per day);
◦ in gemmotherapy: olive MG 1 DH (75 drops per day);
◦ its leaves in powder form (1 g per day).
– Dandelion in infusion to lower blood sugar (3 cups per day);
– psyllium to lower the overall glycemic index of meals;
– Lake Baikal skullcap root (Scutellaria baicalensis), which contains an antioxidant polyphenol, wogonin, to normalize blood sugar levels and rebalance “good” and “bad” cholesterol levels (while stimulating the heart and protecting the heart muscle);
– Aloe vera, in the form of extracts, can lower glycemia by more than 45 mg/dl on average (and up to 110 mg/dl in the most severely affected people with diabetes);
– saffron, which acts on inflammatory factors, a study has shown a decrease of total cholesterol and triglycerides, but also of hyperglycemia because of the modulation of glucose levels (saffron would also allow reactivating the cells of the pancreas, thus helping to find a normal secretion of insulin);
– cinnamon, when consumed daily (5 g per day), limits the rise in blood sugar after meals and brings it back to its reference level more quickly.
5. Food supplements to fight diabetes
Several food supplements can help fight diabetes. This will be the case in particular:
– trace elements:
◦ chromium;
◦ nickel;
◦ vanadium;
– vitamins:
◦ B1;
◦ B12.
– supplements such as:
◦ pine bark;
◦ grape seed extract…
6. Consider homeopathy for diabetes
Indeed, homeopathic granules contain sucrose (sugar). For all that, they are not contraindicated in helping diabetics and can, in some cases, help patients.
Note: it is still preferable to consult a professional homeopath because diabetes is a pathology far from harmless.
In general, the homeopathic doctor will be able to suggest granules of:
– Glycerinum;
– Iris versicolor;
– Uranium nitricum.
Good to know: biological decoding is another approach focusing on the emotional aspect of diabetes linked to particular stress.
